This March and April, the Denver Young Ambassadors embarked on an unforgettable cultural journey as part of the student exchange program between Denver and Brest, France. The program saw students from both cities immerse themselves in each other’s cultures, schools, and daily lives, fostering not only new friendships but also an appreciation for international perspectives.
The Outgoing Exchange – Denver to Brest (March 14 – 28, 2024)
Denver’s young ambassadors kicked off their French adventure by landing in Brest after a scenic journey through Paris. The itinerary was packed with educational and cultural activities including visits to Oceanopolis Aquarium, the historic city of Quimper, and numerous local attractions. Students had the chance to attend classes at La Croix Rouge school, participate in sports, and enjoy evenings with their host families, truly living the French life. They visited all the main attractions in Paris including a private visit to the U.S. Embassy.
The Incoming Exchange – Brest to Denver (April 5 – 15, 2024):
In April, we welcomed the Brest students to Denver, where they were greeted with an equally enriching program. Their experience included tours of the University of Denver, the Colorado State Capitol, and local museums such as the Denver Museum of Nature & Science and the Denver Aquarium. The students also enjoyed a day of baseball at Coors Field and explored natural Denver Mountain Parks like Red Rocks Park and The Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave.
Cultural Impact and Personal Growth
The exchange program was more than just a trip abroad; it was a transformative experience for the students. Living with host families and attending school in a foreign country helped them develop a deeper understanding of the world and their place in it. They came away with not only improved language skills but also a greater confidence in navigating new environments.
The Denver-Brest Student Exchange Program concluded successfully with new friendships forged and many stories to tell. We look forward to continuing this wonderful partnership and to the future opportunities it will bring to our students. A heartfelt thank you goes to all the families, teachers, and organizers in both cities who played a pivotal role in the success of this program.
