We’re thrilled to share the recording from our recent feature on The Morning Set on KUVO Jazz! On Tuesday morning, November 5th, hosts Carlos Lando and Steve Chavis, along with Community Producer Abi Clark, welcomed Denver jazz legend Purnell Steen, leader of the Five Points Ambassadors, and Sacha Francois Heppell, Executive Director of Denver Sister Cities International. The conversation delved into Denver’s vibrant history of cultural diplomacy and the upcoming events that celebrate global connections.
In this enlightening segment, Purnell Steen, who is also an unofficial jazz historian of Denver’s historic Five Points neighborhood, shared insights on the origins of Denver’s Sister Cities program. The program dates back to the post-World War II era, a time when fostering goodwill and rebuilding international relationships were at the forefront. Since those hopeful days, Denver has grown to establish Sister City relationships with ten cities spanning every continent.
Sacha Francois Heppell spoke passionately about Denver Sister Cities International's mission to promote global friendships and cultural exchange. He also highlighted two key upcoming events at Dazzle Denver: the Global Unity Fundraiser on November 7th and a special event on November 15th. Both evenings promise live music, cultural engagement, and the chance to support programs that empower youth and promote international cooperation.
We invite you to listen to the recording of this special segment and immerse yourself in the stories and excitement leading up to these events. For those interested in attending, find out more details at Denver Sister Cities International or Dazzle Denver.
