Denver, CO – Denver Sister Cities Cuernavaca Committee proudly announces a citizen delegation visit to Cuernavaca, Mexico, from October 24 to November 3, 2024, continuing a 40+ year partnership between the two cities. This delegation represents a significant opportunity to strengthen ties through cultural exchange, health initiatives, and community-building activities.
As a symbol of unity and commitment to healthy communities, the delegation will plant trees in Denver Park in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Additionally, the team will distribute reading and vision glasses to those in need, in collaboration with local partners, ensuring better access to essential vision care. The visit will also feature a youth soccer and basketball tournament, encouraging connection and camaraderie among young people from both cities.
To further engage the community, Denver Sister Cities Cuernavaca Committee will host an open house for the community in Cuernavaca, providing an opportunity for local residents to learn more and get involved in the Sister Cities partnership. The delegation will also meet with local community leaders and government dignitaries to discuss future collaboration between Denver and Cuernavaca.
In partnership with the LIONS Club of Cuernavaca, the delegation will host a three-day eye clinic, providing vital vision care to the community and further demonstrating the impact of this long-standing relationship. Last year’s eyeglass mission was a tremendous success, providing hundreds of individuals in Cuernavaca with essential vision care.
The Denver delegation includes several dedicated individuals who have shown extraordinary leadership and commitment to fostering international collaboration. Susy Osorio-Kinsky, Chair of the Cuernavaca Committee and Fernando Pineda Reyes, Denver Sister Cities International Board Member. They are joined by Myrna Ann Adkins, German Gonzalez, Irene Vilar and Steve Kinsky, dedicated members of the Cuernavaca Committee, whose ongoing leadership and commitment have been instrumental in strengthening the ties between Denver and Cuernavaca.
Denver Sister Cities was awarded the prestigious 2024 Sister Cities International Innovation in Humanitarian Assistance for a Population greater than 300,001 award. This recognition honored Denver Sister Cities’ Cuernavaca Committee outstanding work leading a ophthalmological campaign in Cuernavaca in 2023, providing free eye care services, including more than 1,000 pairs of eyeglasses, readers, and sunglasses.
