We are thrilled to unveil the lineup of distinguished speakers for the Denver Sister Cities 2025 Annual Meeting & Celebration: Denver for Africa. This inspiring event will bring together leaders and visionaries who have shaped Denver’s global sister city connections and continue to champion the power of citizen diplomacy. This year’s theme, “Denver for Africa,” honors two significant anniversaries: the 50th Anniversary with Nairobi, Kenya, and the 30th Anniversary with Axum, Ethiopia. We will also celebrate the 65th Anniversary of Denver’s relationship with Takayama, Japan, alongside all ten of Denver’s sister cities.

Trailblazer for Citizen Diplomacy
Former Mayor Wellington Webb, Denver’s 42nd Mayor and the first African American to hold the position, will share his reflections on the importance of global partnerships. During his tenure, Mayor Webb signed the sister city agreements with Axum, Ethiopia, in 1995 and Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, in 2001, solidifying Denver’s commitment to international collaboration.

Dr. Ricki Garrett will present Sister Cities International’s ambitious 500 in 5 initiative, which seeks to connect 500 African cities with cities in the United States within the next five years. Her insights into the power of global partnerships will inspire attendees to imagine the possibilities of international cooperation.
